We're proud to introduce the latest design in our mythology series, this time drawing inspiration from Mesoamerican culture.
Here we have a depiction of the wondrous and powerful Huitzilopochtli, who was a multifaceted God in Aztec religion, being the chief deity of war and also representative of the Sun. He was the patron of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. A God of Gods if you will.
Drawn by Indigenous Mexican artist Michael Vasquez (@izelillustrations), this depiction of Huitzilopochtli is directly influenced from the Codices drawings, the aim to be as historically accurate as possible.
This explains the dominance of blue in this depiction as Huitzilopochtli was also referred as the Turquoise Prince. In Mesoamerican culture, a shortened form of Huitzilopochtli is Huitzil which translates directly to Humminbirds. You'll notice a hummingbird on the shield.
Hummingbirds were believed to be the reincarnation of dead warriors. In whatever you pursue, may you apply yourself fully and embody a warrior spirit, in lifting or otherwise.
