Ever been made fun of ?
Ever had a negative comment made about your body?
All of us have likely dealt with body image issues at some point which is why we found a recent post by Raskol Athlete, Coach Austin so powerful.
Austin said:
I was insecure about wearing stringers. I grew up a chubby kid and my weight has fluctuated throughout the years so being made fun of was nothing new.
I didn’t realize that what you go through as a kid definitely affects you in your adulthood in certain instances.
I’m very well aware that my weight has been up and down the past years, especially as a gym owner I’d get comments such as:
“Looks like you don’t follow your own advice.”
or
“I’d train with him but he’s fat so why waste my money?”
which I admit definitely hit a sore spot in my ego.
Does it suck to hear these? Yep. Does it affect me? Yep. Will it stop me? Nope.
The fitness industry is superficial as fuck but there’s so much good that fitness can do for people’s lives that I choose to press forward and lead with empathy.
I know I always take random goofy images of myself but taking this type of image took me out of my comfort zone.
I wanted to take a step back and appreciate the grind I’ve been on of taking my health back. I wanted to appreciate that just because you’re unhappy with where you are now doesn’t mean you can’t change it.
It just takes courage to take that first step for yourself.
I’d also like to thank Raskol for taking a chance on me and challenge my insecurity of being who I am.
At Raskol, we are here to remind you to be yourself, to have the courage to take those risks and push past your comfort zone.
Greatness lies on the other side of discomfort. We're here when you're ready.
